Employees who are benefit eligible and are transferring employment from one Dartmouth Hitchcock Alliance member to another will receive special consideration related to benefits. A transfer is when an employee terminates either a full time or part time position at one member facility to begin full or part time employment at another member facility.
- The date of service for establishing time off accrual rates (i.e. ETO, Vacation, CTO) will be carried forward from their previous employer to their new employer.
- If the transferee was eligible for health or dental insurance with their previous employer, then the new employer’s health and dental plan effective date will determine when benefits begin. If this causes a gap in either health and/or dental insurance coverage, the new employer will pay the employee’s COBRA fee until new coverage can be established.
- A grace period of four weeks will be allowed between when an employee leaves one member organization and starts at the other member organization. None of the above will apply if the change in employment exceeds four weeks.
- Service with the previous employer as it relates to vesting will be review upon transfer to determine appropriate vesting credit in the new employer’s retirement plan or plans. This applies only for the length of time the former organization has been a member of DHA. If the organization has been a member for only 2 years, then the maximum credit given for vesting will be 2 years, assuming they have been employed full time at the former organization for that period of time.
